The Toothpillow program for kids
Helping kids breathe, sleep, and grow the way they were meant to.
What is the Toothpillow program
A program built around naturally guiding jaw and airway growth to support healthy breathing, sleep, and development.
The Toothpillow Program is a 24-month journey designed for children ages 3–12. It helps them breathe, sleep, and grow well by guiding how the jaws, tongue, and airway develop during their most important years of growth.
Three core elements work together:
Guided growth appliances
Soft, comfortable devices that help the tongue rest in the right place. This gentle guidance encourages the jaws to widen and grow forward, creating space for teeth and supporting healthy nasal breathing.
Myofunctional therapy
Short, kid-friendly exercises that strengthen the tongue, lips, and face. These movements help build the muscle patterns needed for nasal breathing, healthy swallowing, and balanced facial growth.
Nasal hygiene routines
Simple daily habits that keep the nose clear and the airway open. Regular nasal care supports deep sleep, steady oxygen flow, and the breathing patterns that guide healthy growth.
Guidance at Every Step
Parents receive clear instructions, regular check-ins, and progress tracking through the Toothpillow app.
Kids build independence through daily steps that fit naturally into family life. Most families complete the program 100% virtually, with the option of local partner offices when in-person support is helpful.

Get StartedWhat makes Toothpillow different
An airway-first approach.
Toothpillow focuses on what drives healthy growth: tongue posture, jaw development, and open nasal breathing. By working during the years when growth is most active, the program naturally creates space for teeth, supports the airway, and helps children breathe and sleep better every night.
Your first step to understanding your child's growth and breathing is quick, simple, and free.
Get StartedWhy early guidance matters
Waiting comes at a cost
By the time most kids are offered braces, nearly 90% of jaw growth is already finished. That means the chance to influence how their face develops, how much room their airway has, and how well they can breathe at night is slipping away.
Toothpillow steps in during the right years
Rather than focusing on straightening teeth at the end of growth, the program supports airway health and jaw development while those structures are still forming. Acting early creates more space for teeth to come in naturally, while also improving sleep, breathing, and overall development.
The impact shows up in daily life
Mouth breathing, low tongue posture, and narrow jaws can affect sleep quality, attention span, energy, and even behavior. These struggles are often treated as separate issues, but many trace back to the airway. Guiding growth early helps protect against these challenges and reduces the need for extractions or complex treatment later on.

How the Toothpillow program works
The Toothpillow Program is a structured 24‑month process that walks families through each stage of care in a clear and supportive way. From the first assessment to the final review, the program is designed to guide jaw and airway growth, improve oral function, and give parents a clear picture of their child's development.
A Toothpillow Airway Dentist reviews photos of your child's face, palate, teeth, and symptoms. Families receive an overview of whether the program may be a fit, plus recommendations for next steps.

Each child receives a plan tailored to their age and airway needs. It sets goals, daily steps, and a timeline so parents know what to expect.
We provide appliances selected specifically for your child's needs to support jaw growth and tongue posture. Alongside, they complete short, kid‑friendly exercises that train tongue posture, swallowing, and nasal breathing, with optional one‑on‑one support from licensed myofunctional therapists.

Myobrace
The Myobrace system is used for specialty cases where a child's bite, jaw growth, or muscle patterns require a different design. Toothpillow doctors may recommend Myobrace when a child's growth or function needs an alternative approach to support proper development and breathing.
Children wear their guide each night while sleeping and for 1–2 hours during the day.
Myofunctional Exercises should be performed daily morning and night.
Families upload photos and videos, check in virtually, and track progress in the app. Our clinical team reviews submissions and updates plans as needed.
Families often report noticing calmer nights, easier nasal breathing, and improvements in focus within the first months. Over two years, children may also show widening jaws, broader arches, and stronger airway support.

Beyond two years, support continues
If a child needs more time after the initial 24 months, families can continue month-to-month for a small monthly fee. This option keeps their care plan active, allows progress to be followed, and ensures ongoing access to support without interruption.

The four pillars of the Toothpillow program
Pillar 1: Guided growth appliances
Appliances that guide, not force
Instead of waiting for braces to straighten teeth at the end of growth, we use soft, comfortable appliances to direct how the jaws grow during the years when their jaws are growing most rapidly. These guides encourage proper tongue posture, which in turn guides the jaws to widen and grow forward naturally.
Night and day support
The appliances are worn each night while your child sleeps, plus short periods during the day. Nighttime wear passively directs growth, while daytime wear takes advantage of natural swallowing and muscle use to reinforce healthy posture. Over the course of the program, your child may progress through 2–3 different guides as they grow.
Why it matters
Guiding growth in real time not only reduces crowding and the need for extractions later, it also opens the airway — supporting better breathing and sleep.
Pillar 2: Myofunctional therapy
Why it matters
Stronger, better-coordinated muscles mean more stable growth and long-term results that braces alone can't achieve.
Training the muscles that shape the face and airway
The tongue, lips, and cheeks are powerful growth drivers. If they're weak, imbalanced, or misplaced, the jaws can grow narrow, teeth crowd, and the airway stays small. Myofunctional therapy retrains these muscles so function and structure work together.
Simple, child-friendly routines
Families receive app-based exercises that take just minutes a day. These short routines teach the tongue to rest against the palate, train proper swallowing, and reinforce nasal breathing. For children who need more support, one-on-one sessions with licensed myofunctional therapists are available to customize plans and track progress.
Pillar 3: Nasal hygiene
Protecting the airway every night.
Clear nasal breathing is essential for healthy sleep. Even with good growth and muscle training, a congested nose can force a child to mouth-breathe, undoing progress. That's why Toothpillow includes simple, child-safe nasal hygiene routines.
Daily habit, lasting impact.
Families are provided with nasal spray and shown how to make nose-clearing part of the bedtime routine. This small step reduces congestion, helps kids breathe consistently through their nose at night, and improves oxygen delivery while they sleep.
Why it matters
Nighttime nasal breathing supports better sleep quality, protects against snoring, and maximizes the impact of growth guidance and myofunctional therapy.
Pillar 4: Ongoing monitoring and support
Why it matters
The real difference is ongoing support. Toothpillow is a two-year partnership with a care team that tracks your child's progress, adjusts the plan as they grow, and celebrates meaningful milestones along the way.
You're never doing this alone.
Growth guidance only works if families feel supported. That's why Toothpillow pairs every family with a dedicated care coordinator and uses the app to keep progress on track.
Regular reviews, real adjustments.
You'll submit photos, videos, and quick check-ins that our clinical team reviews regularly. The plan is adjusted as your child grows, ensuring no one falls through the cracks. Dentists check in every six months, coordinators respond to questions quickly, and families always know their child's growth is being followed.

Get StartedWho the program helps most
Toothpillow is designed specifically for children ages 3 to 12, during their most important years of growth.
At this stage, the jaws, airway, and facial structures are actively developing. Guiding growth early creates a wider airway, more space for teeth, and healthier muscle patterns that support lifelong breathing and sleep.
Not every child qualifies — and that's a good thing.
The Toothpillow program is designed for children ages 3–12 who show signs of airway dysfunction, sleep issues, or crowding. That's why we always begin with a free virtual assessment.
Some children may not need intervention if they are growing on track, while others may need in‑person evaluation for options like upper or lower expanders, or care related to other medical needs. If your child isn't a candidate, we'll tell you honestly and provide clear next steps so you don't lose time searching for answers.
Why it matters
Every child deserves a clear path forward — whether that means beginning the Toothpillow Program, receiving in-person care, or knowing their growth is on track. Whether your child qualifies for Toothpillow or needs a different path, the first step gives you a clear understanding of their growth and airway health.
We'll review your child's growth, breathing, and sleep to see if the program is the right fit

Results and testimonials
We have had a great experience with Toothpillow so far. Within 2 weeks my son stopped sucking his fingers and both kids are sleeping better, waking up more rested. Excited to see the progress they continue to make.

Families notice change sooner than they expect
In the first few months, parents often report bedtime routines get smoother, kids wake up more refreshed, and behaviors tied to poor sleep begin to settle. These early improvements show the airway is opening and function is improving.
My son has been using the Toothpillow system for over 1 year. We have seen incredible changes in his bite, sleeping, and overall health. As a baby we had his tongue tie revised but he still had lots of body tension, mouth breathing, and more. This is a massive game changer and completely worth it. It took about a week for him to get used to the mouth piece but he requests it now.
Megan Sunde, Google Review
Over time, growth follows a healthier path
As the program continues, families see visible changes in jaw width and spacing for teeth. The tongue finds its proper resting place, swallowing becomes more efficient, and breathing stays more consistent. By the end of the 24 months, most children finish with wider arches, better airway support, and a stronger foundation for lifelong health.
Our daughter had been almost constantly sleepwalking and doing bizarre things in her sleep. She was snoring and woke up multiple times during the night to use the bathroom. All of that has stopped! She is now getting more sleep and so are we! Her mouth breathing has improved somewhat, but we are hoping to continue seeing progress as we continue therapy.
Christian Greer, TX, Google Review
The impact reaches beyond teeth
Parents describe children who are calmer in the classroom, less irritable at home, and more energetic in sports and play. Because the airway and nervous system are deeply connected, guiding growth often leads to improvements in focus, mood, and overall well-being.
